I’m sitting in a little coffee shop working on an electronic press kit. It’s a lot of work, but I’m getting there, and I must say, I could get used to the idea of working out of various coffee shops, meeting up with people through the day, and jamming and playing shows every few nights. I’m also stoked to start planning for a spring tour.

To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket—safe, dark, motionless, airless—it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside of Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.

I just found out that one of my favorite bands, Copeland is breaking up. So sad! Apparently they’re planning a springtime farewell tour of the US. I am definitely going to have to hit up one of those dates…perhaps it’ll be an excuse to go to the west coast.

good times in langley

We drove to Langley from Victoria today after a great show at Solstice Cafe last night with Noah Cebuliak and Mindil Beach Markets. It was seriously a good time. The ferry ride (although stupidly expensive!) was a lot better than when we went to Victoria. This time we actually got out of the van and didn’t sleep. haha. It was a beautiful day so we were able to enjoy the islands and ocean. Oh how I love the west coast.

Anyway, tonight we played at the Wired Monk in Langley. Aside from some technical difficulties, it was a really fun show. Cassie and Evie, two girls from Langley, and Treelight Room, played. And lots of friends came out to the show, which was super neat! I got to see my grandma, and some family that I haven’t seen for a long time. And to top it all off, my mom was at the show!

We have the next few days off to chill and hang out in the lower mainland before we go back to Vancouver. On the agenda includes the possibilities of swimming, Where the Wild Things Are, and of course, U2 on Wednesday! Boo ya!

Until next time.

island life

We left Grand Forks last night at 11:15 pm and drove all the way to Victoria. Aaron was the champion of the day and drove the entire way, dodging deer and getting us safely to the Island. I slept for most of the drive, but I was still so tired today. It was nice to get to Victoria really early, so we were able to chill and explore the city for a bit. We bought a crib board at Walmart, and then Andrew and I found this really cool fish and chips place downtown called Old Vic Fish and Chips. We played a few games of crib while we ate…I skunked him once, and then he had a win. Our crib score for tour thus far is Andrew - 8, Lauren - 4. For some reason, his beginner’s luck is holding out.

Anyway, tonight we played a show at Solstice Cafe with Noah Cebuliak and Mindil Beach Markets. It turned out to be a great night. Lots of people came out, and definitely made the night awesome. Next tour, more Island dates are happening for sure!

Thank you Victoria, I have greatly enjoyed my time here, as always. Perhaps sometime soon I will be able to spend more time here than just a day.
